The New England Patriots are in the middle of preparing for their wild-card playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Across the league, though, there has been quite a bit of chaos with the latest head coaching carousel.
Several teams have openings at their head coach spot, with perhaps the most surprising of the bunch being the Baltimore Ravens. After just missing out on the postseason this year, the Ravens opted to fire longtime head coach John Harbaugh.
While Harbaugh has quickly become one of the top head coach candidates across the league, Baltimore’s opening is viewed as perhaps the most attractive in the league. On Thursday morning, reports emerged indicating that one of the Patriots’ former coaches, Brian Flores, would get a shot to interview for the job.
“Sources: The Ravens plan on interviewing Vikings DC Brian Flores for their open HC vacancy,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported in a post on X. “Flores has an expiring contract in Minnesota and is hopeful to get a second opportunity to be a HC.”
Flores, who is currently the Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator, broke into the league as a coach with the Pats back in 2008. He eventually worked his way up to the team’s linebackers coach role, and he was essentially their defensive coordinator in 2018, which saw New England win its most recent Super Bowl championship.
Things didn’t go well for Flores during his first stint as a head coach with the Miami Dolphins, but he has reemerged as a top head coach candidate after helping the Vikings’ defense emerge as one of the top units in the league. Flores will face quite a bit of competition for this gig, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he emerges as a frontrunner.
