An NFL career that began at Gillette Stadium will officially end there.
Former New England Patriots center David Andrews is set to retire after 10 seasons, the organization announced, with a press conference scheduled for Monday, June 2 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Andrews, 32, had remained a free agent since his release in Foxborough on March 13. A failed physical designation was part of the move after he saw his final campaign conclude on injured reserve due to shoulder surgery last fall.
Undrafted out of the University of Georgia in 2015, Andrews outlasted the league’s 53-man roster deadline as a rookie. He proceeded to start 121 of his 124 appearances as a member of the Patriots.
An eight-time captain in the middle, the run brought Super Bowl LI and LIII rings as well as a spot on the franchise’s latest All-Decade team.
A total of 7,830 snaps were handled by Andrews in the regular season, including a pair of wire-to-wire ironman years. He also started 10 games in the postseason. At the time of his departure from the roster, the past Ron Burton Community Service Award recipient held the longest tenure on the offensive side of the ball.
