With the Seattle Seahawks reportedly releasing Marquez Valdes-Scantling, could the former Green Bay Packers wide receiver reunite with Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh? The Steelers have a pressing need at wide receiver, and Rodgers has close relationship with Valdes-Scantling.
“Man, he’s one of the greatest you’ll ever find,” Valdes-Scantling said of Rodgers in an interview with Zach Gelb of CBS Sports Radio in April of 2024. “He cares more about his teammates than about the game of football. You know, I think that’s something that people really don’t understand. Because people get this perception of him that he’s this diva or all about himself, that’s the furthest thing from the truth.”
Valdes-Scantling, 30, has been on three different teams within the last year. On Oct. 15, following the Buffalo Bills’ acquisition of wide receiver Amari Cooper in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, Valdes-Scantling was released. He signed with the New Orleans Saints a week later and remained on the their roster for the rest of the year.
In Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons, Valdes-Scantling had three receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns. In his time with the Bills and the Saints, he recorded 19 receptions for 411 yards and four touchdowns.
Valdes-Scantling played his first four seasons with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. He then went on to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles with the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.
Valdes-Scantling is on the back-end of his career, but he showed some potential during his stint in New Orleans last year. With his connection to Rodgers, kicking the tires on MVS might be worth a shot.
Since Valdes-Scantling is a veteran, he does not have to go through waivers and can sign with any team once released.
