Greg Hardy, the former star NFL defensive end and UFC fighter, found himself in trouble with the law again on Wednesday afternoon in Texas.
According to jail records obtained by TMZ Sports, authorities booked Hardy at 2:29 PM on a charge of “assault causes bodily injury family family member.”
The 36-year-old remains in custody and will face a judge Thursday morning, when his bond is expected to be set. A jail official confirmed that Hardy will stay behind bars until the court appearance.
Officials have yet to share further details about the incident or the identity of the alleged victim.
This isn’t the first time Hardy’s name has surfaced in connection with assault charges.
In 2014, police arrested him for allegedly assaulting his then-girlfriend, a case that cast a long shadow over his career. While a judge initially found him guilty, the charges were dropped after the accuser stopped cooperating with prosecutors. In 2016, police arrested Hardy again, this time on a felony drug possession charge involving cocaine.

Hardy’s football career spanned six seasons between 2010 and 2015. He started with the Carolina Panthers and later joined the Dallas Cowboys. Known for his explosive ability on the field, his off-the-field issues quickly overshadowed his talent. After the NFL, Hardy pivoted to mixed martial arts and fought several times under the UFC banner, where he brought the same raw energy, but also the same controversy.
TMZ first broke the news of Wednesday’s arrest, and the Collin County jail confirmed the details shortly afterward. While the current allegations remain unclear, the charge indicates a domestic violence situation involving a family member. The phrase used in the booking records- “assault causes bodily injury family family member”– typically applies when someone is accused of causing physical harm to a person with whom they share a domestic relationship.
Hardy has not made a public statement, and no legal representatives have commented on the arrest as of Wednesday evening. The Thursday court hearing should provide more clarity on the case and Hardy’s next steps. For now, he remains in custody, waiting to answer to yet another serious charge.
