Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to exercise due care, violation of implied consent law, and possession of a handgun while under the influence last October. On Tuesday, he took a plea deal in a Franklin, Tenn. courtroom and will now be forced to serve several days in jail.
The 42-year-old former Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins quarterback, who gained newfound fame following his retirement from the NFL when he appeared on his then-wife’s reality TV show Very Cavallari, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and must now serve four days in the Williamson County Jail. Cutler will also be required to forfeit a gun, lose his Tennessee driver’s license, pay a $350 fine, be on unsupervised probation for one year, and must attend a DUI safety class. The weapons possession charge was dropped as part of the plea agreement.
According to the arrest affidavit filed by the Franklin Police Department, Cutty was arrested at about 5 p.m. on October 17, 2024 after he rear-ended a blue GMC with his white Dodge Ram truck. He reportedly offered $2,000 to the driver of the blue GMC to not call the police following the accident.
When police arrived on the scene, officers described Jay Cutler as being visibly intoxicated. “During their conversation with Cutler, officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol,” Franklin Police said in a statement at the time, according to The Tennessean. “Cutler was also slurring his words and had blood shot eyes.”
Cutler refused a field sobriety test, but was taken to a local hospital for police to collect a blood sample. A search of his Dodge Ram truck by the officers revealed he was in possession of a rifle and a loaded Glock pistol that was stashed in the center console of the vehicle. He was eventually booked into jail and later released on a $5,000 bond.
Shortly following his arrest, he and his now fiancee, Samantha Robertson, appeared together at the 2024 premiere of Yellowstone. More recently, Jay Cutler fired back at his ex-wife Kristin Cavallari’s claim that she didn’t get “a penny” in their 2020 divorce.
The former first round pick will begin serving his time in the Williamson County Jail on Sept. 29. He has not made any public comments addressing his arrest or the plea deal.
