Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is reportedly in critical condition after being stabbed in Indianapolis early Saturday morning.
TMZ reports that police were called around 12:30 AM on Saturday morning to a street in downtown Indianapolis for two injured people, one of whom was Sanchez.
The 38-year-old had a nine-year playing career across several teams, but primarily with the New York Jets. After announcing his retirement in 2018, Sanchez transitioned to a broadcasting role.
He currently works for FOX Sports, for whom he was expected to call Sunday’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts.
As of now, police have not provided information on a suspect or motive for the incident.
In addition to calling games for FOX, Sanchez also recently launched the new digital show titled “Rearview*.”*
“It’s about giving the fans inside access to players after games throughout the season, and deep conversations,’ Sanchez said of the show. “The ethos of it is they’re built on trust where guys can share what’s on their mind. It’s not really like a clickbait thing. It’s not based on press conference soundbites. It really gives the fans a perspective of the athletes they love and support.
“I’m leveraging my relationships with these players. They understand I’ve been in their shoes. My only regret with the show is it wasn’t around when I was playing.”
