The belief in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense continues to grow around the league.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been doing some soul searching on offense since Ben Roethlisberger retired at the end of the 2021 season. However, it seems they finally have something in their 2025 squad.
At least, that’s what former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky believes.
“Last year, I think they were doing some success, and you guys remember me saying, ‘Hey, it ain’t good enough on offense. It’s not gonna beat teams that actually matter,’” Orlovsky said on The Pat McAfee Show. “I feel differently about this group. I’ve watched this offense for the past three weeks, and I go, ‘This offense can be good enough to beat a Buffalo, a Kansas City, an Indy because they’re efficient.’”

The Steelers aren’t lighting up the scoreboard. In fact, they haven’t been statistically special at all. Through the first six weeks of the season, they are averaging the 14th-most points per game (23.8) and fourth-least total yards per game (277.8).
However, Pittsburgh has been moving the ball and scoring when it matters, and much of that is thanks to Aaron Rodgers, who has provided experience and stability at the most important position.
“This is the best Aaron Rodgers has looked in years,” McAfee added. “This is the best Arty Smith’s offense has looked in years. This is the best the Pittsburgh Steelers offense has looked in years, and they’re doing it in their own way, which I think is special.”
The 41-year-old’s best football is behind him, but he has shown he still deserves to be a starter in the NFL while throwing for 1,021 yards, 10 touchdowns and just three interceptions over his first five games in the black and gold.
The Steelers now sit atop the AFC North and as the No. 2 seed in the AFC with a 4-1 record. The Indianapolis Colts (4-1) are the only team above them and the two are set to play each other in Week 9.
Only time will tell if Pittsburgh will be able to hang with the AFC’s elite, but there is a different feeling in the Steel City this year, and Orlovsky thinks it is deserved.
