Former NFL offensive lineman Matt Schlereth questions free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ recent public appearances.
Free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers has kept busy as of late, holding a Q&A with the crowd at a concert over the weekend and making an appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast” last week. Former NFL offensive lineman Matt Schlereth believes if Rodgers can do those things, he can show up for his next team.
“Listen, if you can be at some public venue answering questions about your career, could you be at OTAs,” Schlereth questioned on FS1’s “Breakfast Ball.”
Rodgers dropped a major hint that his next team will be the Pittsburgh Steelers during the Q&A session. A girl asked him if he would ever play for the Chicago Bears.
He replied, “No, but I believe there is a team that might play in Chicago this year, a road trip to Chicago.”
The Steelers do, in fact, have a Week 12 road trip to Chicago on their schedule this season. However, there is still a lot of preparation to be done before the start of the season and that begins on Tuesday when OTAs officially kick off.
Pittsburgh would surely love to have Rodgers in attendance so he can begin building a rapport with his new teammates. But there is still no indication that he is getting closer to signing, which only adds to Schlereth’s argument.
Rodgers did reveal the reason for his delay in decision on “The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast.”
“I’ve figured it out the last year when I’ve been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,” Rodgers said.
It makes sense why that would have Rodgers’ attention, but he seems to be starting to do more outside of his personal life.
Nearly two months have now passed, and Rodgers has still not signed with the Steelers. President Art Rooney II said at the NFL owners meetings in March that the team will “not wait forever” for Rodgers and Rooney’s stance hasn’t changed.
Maybe that deadline will continue to shorten the more Rodgers does in the public eye.
