Adrian Peterson had one of the greatest careers by a running back in NFL history. Unfortunately, his legacy has been marred by chaos, both financially and legally.
In his latest brush with the law, the 40-year-old was arrested Sunday morning at around 9:30 a.m. by Sugar Land police in Texas. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and unlawful carrying of a weapon and booked into the Fort Bend County jail. It was the second time Peterson has been charged with DWI this year.
A jail official informed TMZ that, as of Monday morning, Adrian Peterson was still locked up. His mugshot has, however, been released.
Back in April of 2025, Adrian Peterson was arrested for DWI at around 3:20 a.m. by a State Patrol trooper in Richfield, Minnesota after attending the Vikings’ draft party. He was also charged with driving 83 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone. After being booked into the Hennepin County jail he was released on bond.
In between his two DWI arrest, Peterson got into a fist fight with a poker player at a Texas casino. Police were informed of the fight, but did not investigate the incident. Both Peterson and the man he got into a fight with, Joe “Baby Joe” Castaneda, stated after the scuffle that they are friends and that there were no hard feelings. Shortly thereafter, Peterson and Castaneda signed a contract with Celebrity Boxing to duke it out in the ring. In 2022, former NFL running back Le’Von Bell put Peterson to sleep in a previous Celebrity Boxing match.
This past December, Adrian Peterson had multiple warrants out for his arrest in Texas due to unpaid child support. Peterson’s publicist claimed it was is just a misunderstanding. Two months prior to that issue, Peterson was ordered by a judge in Houston, Texas, to turn over assets to help pay off what is estimated to be more than $12 million in debt.
Adrian Peterson played 15 seasons in the NFL with the Vikings, Saints, Cardinals, Redskins, Lions, Titans and Seahawks. He rushed for 14,918 yards and scored 126 touchdowns. In 2012, he won the NFL MVP award after rushing for 2,097 yards. In 2023, he participated in season 32 of Dancing with the Stars, coming in 11th.
