Former New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini isn’t buying Aaron Rodgers’ commitment to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mangini, who was also once the head coach of the Browns, has found the 41-year-old QB’s behavior to be “disingenous.”
Earlier this offseason, after being kicked to the curb by the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year, $13.65 million contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers and has essentially confirmed this will be his final season in the National Football League.
Rodgers certainly made the Steelers wait for his signature, as he didn’t sign a contract with the team until early June, which was after both free agency and the NFL Draft.
On Fox Sports 1 this week, former New York Jets and Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini ripped Rodgers’ commitment to the Steelers as being “disingenuous,” which is certainly a characteristic that’s been associated with the divisive signal-caller in recent years.
“I don’t know if it’s me being cynical, but you had a lot of time to make a decision to become a Pittsburgh Steeler. You could’ve come in a little bit earlier, you could’ve gone to a few OTAs. You could’ve gotten a much more thorough understanding of the system so that this becomes that much more impactful,” Mangini said on FS1’s First Things First this week.
“And didn’t he talk about how he’s trying to stay away from the media and keep things private? Then you have this, and you’re the one that posted on Instagram? It just seems a little bit disingenuous.”

Ironically enough, Rodgers and the Steelers will open their 2025/26 season with a trip to MetLife to take on Rodgers’ previous team, the New York Jets, who have replaced him with QB Justin Fields.
