If you’d have asked Pittsburgh Steelers fans a decade ago if they’d have like Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback, most — if not all — of them would’ve said absolutely. Throwing in Mike McCarthy as the team’s head coach might make it feel as if we’ve jumped into an episode of “The Twilight Zone.”

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci, who played for McCarthy in 2020 and is a graduate of nearby Pine-Richland High School, watched the four-time Associated Press NFL MVP as his own passing career blossomed. DiNucci is among those who are still intrigued by the idea of Rodgers being in the saddle. (Yes, that’s a pun related to his recent trip out west.)

“I think my biggest question mark is, ‘Can Big Mike and Aaron Rodgers make this farewell tour everything that everyone’s gonna pump it up to be?'” DiNucci said Tuesday on “CBS Sports HQ.” “Myself, as a fan, I’m gonna enjoy this, this last ride. Aaron Rodgers was one of the guys that I kinda idolized and watched a lot growing up, in terms of how to play the quarterback position, how to throw a football, your footwork all that stuff.

“And then, Mike McCarthy was the one who drafted me to the NFL and gave me a chance to start my NFL career, so a lot of eyes are gonna be on the Pittsburgh Steelers this year.”

DiNucci took a step further. He thinks the Steelers’ offense, which ranked No. 25 in the league in total yards gained last season, will be entertaining.

“If I know anything about Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers, they’re gonna throw the ball, it’s gonna be fun, he’s gonna give Aaron a lot of control at the line of scrimmage and I think they’ve done a really good job this offseason adding some tools around Aaron that I think are gonna help,” DiNucci said.
