Former first-round pick among 4 Seahawks tryouts

There were no roster additions or subtractions to report for the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, but we may see a new player or two later this week.

Per the NFL transaction wire, Seattle had the following players in for official tryouts:

  • OLB Shaq Lawson
  • S Darrick Forrest
  • CB A.J. Woods
  • T Chandler Brewer

The name that stands out the most is Shaq Lawson, who was a first-round pick back in 2016. After four decent but mostly unremarkable seasons with the Buffalo Bills, Lawson had short stints with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets before returning for two more seasons in Buffalo. He’s been out of action since a one-off practice squad elevation with the Carolina Panthers back in 2024. Lawson is 31 years old with 26 career sacks and clearly would be nothing more than rotational depth at this point.

As for the others: Forrest played for the Washington Commanders for four seasons, making 17 starts out of 40 games. In his most sustained action in 2022, he recorded four interceptions, nine passes defensed, and 88 total tackles. Woods has never been on an NFL active roster, although he was on the practice squad for last year’s Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Lastly, Brewer was a UDFA signing by the Los Angeles Rams back in 2019, but he’s otherwise played just 15 total NFL games for four teams, including most recently with the Tennessee Titans last season. Brewer has also been cancer-free since 2019, having been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma while still in college.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald noted on Monday that the injury report “wasn’t as clean as we initially anticipated.” Derick Hall “got nicked up” toward the end of the game according to Macdonald, but any additional info is TBD. With Seattle set for practice on Wednesday, we may get a clearer (and perhaps more worrisome) picture as far as team health heading into Week 3 at home against the New Orleans Saints.
