Congratulations to Sean Clement!
It’s not often we get to do a major story that is loosely about Field Gulls, but this news regarding the New York Jets’ latest hire is irresistible.
As part of their umpteenth rebuild, the Jets are overhauling more than their coaching staff and the roster. Their revamped front office includes newly hired Football Analytics Director Sean Clement.
This isn’t Sean’s first rodeo in the NFL. He worked as a consultant for the Baltimore Ravens for a couple of seasons before taking on a similar role with the Miami Dolphins, as well as Major League Baseball’s Cincinnati Reds. Sean was most recently the Vice President of Football Operations at SumerSports, a site we’ve used regularly for our own analytics-based articles.
But the real reason we’re highlighting Sean over any other analytics hire is because he’s a Field Gulls alumnus. Way back in 2017, ‘Sean From Seabeck’ wrote his first FanPost, which was all about Blair Walsh replacing Steven Hauschka as Seattle’s placekicker. I highly recommend not reading the results of the poll embedded at the bottom. His data-driven FanPosts turned into a spot on the front page as a staff columnist, predominantly in an analyst role with an emphasis on special teams analytics. Sean’s Kicker Consideration columns were must-reads given... well, you know how that season went. Sean left Field Gulls during the 2018 season and has now made his way into a prominent position within an NFL front office.
Onward and upward, Sean! Congratulations and good luck trying to get the Jets back on course after 15 years without a playoff berth.
