Former Lions CB coach Dre Bly has reunited with Aaron Glenn as a new staffer of the New York Jets.

According to the Jet Press, the New York Jets are hiring former Detroit Lions cornerback (and cornerbacks coach) Dre Bly to be on their new coaching staff under Aaron Glenn. While this news hasn’t been confirmed by the Jets, Bly appears to have confirmed it himself, sharing the story on his Instagram page, as well as changing his Twitter background photo to the New York Jets logo.

As a player, Bly spent four seasons with the Lions, earning a pair of Pro Bowl honors in 2003 and 2004. He recently made his return to the Lions organization, getting hired as the Lions’ cornerback coach in 2023. However, he just lasted a single season in Detroit before he was replaced by current Lions secondary coach Deshea Townsend.

Bly will join Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, as he continues to build his coaching staff in the first few weeks on the job. Glenn has already poached two former Lions coaches for his new staff. Former Lions pass game coordinator Tanner Engstrand is now the Jets offensive coordinator and former Lions tight ends coach Steve Heiden will now coach the Jets’ offensive line.

It’s unclear what exactly Bly’s role will be with the team. The Jets have reportedly hired Chris Harris as their pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach. But it’s clear during their one-year overlap in Detroit, Glenn saw something in Bly worth bringing back into the fold.
