The former Chargers head coach could reunite with Kellen Moore in New Orleans.
Former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley has emerged as a serious candidate for the New Orleans Saints open defensive coordinator position, per Jordan Schultz.
Newly hired Saints head coach Kellen Moore will be looking to assemble his coaching staff. Moore and Staley were on the Chargers coaching staff in 2023 during Moore’s one season in Los Angeles. Staley was fired as the Chargers head coach in 2023 and Moore’s release soon followed.
Staley started his NFL coaching career in 2017 as the Chicago Bears outside linebackers' coach. Staley would then have stints with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams before landing a head coach job with the Chargers in 2021. He would go 9-8 and 10-7 over his first two seasons with a playoff appearance before being fired in the middle of the 2023 season after the team fell to 5-9.
Staley draws comparisons to former Saints head coach Dennis Allen- a great coordinator but not head coach material.
