Shocking and sad news hit the NFL world today.

Rudi Johnson, who played for the Cincinnati Bengals for seven years and the Detroit Lions for one year, has passed away.

He would have turned 46 years old on October 1st.

The cause of death has yet to be made known. But TMZ added: “we’re told he had been recently struggling with mental health issues and the possible effects of CTE that he could not overcome.”

Johnson was a fan favorite in Cincinnati, as he played a big role on the Marvin Lewis teams that made the Bengals relevant again.

The running back ran for 4,221 yards across the 2004, 2005, and 2006 seasons. He also scored 36 touchdowns in that span.

His passing at such a young age is tragic and trouble. May he rest in peace.
