Can you hear that sound? Football season is officially back. It isn’t the sound of pads crashing at practice or reports of position battles, though. No. That sound of football returning is actually Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts speaking nebulous in motivational quotes.

The Super Bowl winning Eagles quarterback has long been known for his habit of speaking in inspiring phrases and to his credit, it must be working, as Jalen Hurts is now both one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and a Super Bowl champion.

Still, that hasn’t stopped NFL fans from firing off some hilarious tweets that mock him for it.

Eagles players and coaches: “Jalen please! We need you to throw downfield! We’re begging you!”

Jalen Hurts: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

Hurts’ penchant for speaking in motivational quotes has become such a common occurrence, in fact, that The Athletic interviewed some of Hurts’ former teammates to try and get to the bottom of it.“

“When Jalen Hurts was the quarterback at Oklahoma, author Damon West spoke to the football team. West’s speech revolved around a carrot, an egg and a coffee bean. He explained that when you put all three in boiling water, the carrot softens and the egg hardens, but the coffee bean spreads to the rest of the water, getting stronger and impacting what’s around it.”

“It was just Jalen,” Caleb King-Kelly, Hurts’ teammate at Oklahoma, said. “Like, sure, it’s a good story, but Jalen? Dude was like, ‘I’m keeping that forever!’ These Jalen-isms, he’s always been this way.”

Patrick Fields, another former teammate of Hurts’ at Oklahoma, said that it’s “just the way he talks.”

“It’s just the way he talks. But even deeper than that, it’s more so the way he looks at life. I think it philosophically shapes the way he does everything,” Fields said.

Jalen Hurts officially kicks off football season with motivational quote about fatigue

Speaking to the media at training camp earlier this week, Hurts again delivered one of his now-famed expressive excerpts while discussing how hot it’s been at practice, saying that “Fatigue makes cowards of us all.”

As the defending Super Bowl champions, Hurts and the Eagles will host the first game of the 2025 NFL season as they will be taking on their NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday, September 4 at 8:30 pm. EST.

The Eagles are not the betting favorites to repeat as champions, however, as the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills have slightly shorter Super Bowl betting odds than the Birds....
