An illness is spreading through the Philadelphia Eagles locker room ahead of Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. According to tackle Lane Johnson, “four or five” of his teammates have had a flu-like illness in recent days.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, February 6, left tackle Lane Johnson — who has been with the Philadelphia Eagles since they took him with the 4th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft — that a handful of his teammates have been sick in recent days in the lead up to Super Bowl LIX.
The illness making its way through the Birds’ locker room was enough to rule defensive star Jalen Carter as “limited” for Wednesday’s practice.
“’Four or five’ Eagles players are sick with the flu or flu-related illnesses, tackle Lane Johnson said Thursday, raising the question of whether the team will be shorthanded or at least hampered for Sunday’s Super Bowl against the Chiefs.”
“Jalen Carter, the Eagles’ star defensive tackle, was listed as ‘limited’ at the team’s Wednesday practice because of an illness. Rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell did not attend Wednesday’s media availability and, though he was there for Thursday’s session, has laryngitis. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio made similar comments to NBC Sports Philadelphia, although the Eagles’ staff has claimed no players are currently at risk of missing Sunday’s big game.

If Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are able to overcome the Eagles in a rematch of 2023’s Super Bowl, they’ll become the first team in the history of the National Football League to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles. It would also represent the fourth Super Bowl title for the core of Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid, and future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce.
