PITTSBURGH — Five injured members of the Pittsburgh Steelers missed the team’s first practice of Week 15 on Thursday at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
Defensive lineman Derrick Harmon, offensive lineman Andrus Peat, cornerback James Pierre, wide receiver Ben Skowronek and outside linebacker T.J. Watt all missed practice on Thursday.
Harmon has missed the last two games with a right knee injury. Head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that Harmon has a chance to work his way back into the lineup this week, but he did not get off to a positive start on Thursday.
Yahya Black started in place of Harmon the last two games. He is also dealing with a shoulder injury, and starting nose tackle Keeanu Benton has an ankle injury, but both of those players were full participants in Thursday’s practice.
Peat is in the concussion protocol after leaving Sunday’s Week 14 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Dylan Cook made his first NFL appearance in relief of Peat and is in line to start with both Broderick Jones and Calvin Anderson on injured reserve.
Pierre is expected to be able to return to practice this week despite nursing a calf injury. He was able to return and finish the win over the Ravens after his injury.
Skowronek has what was originally reported as a finger injury. The team now lists him with a hand injury. He played through the injury on Sunday, but he may be limited to only his special teams duties.
Two other Steelers players were limited in practice while in the concussion protocol: tight end Darnell Washington and linebacker Malik Harrison.
Watt remains hospitalized after injuring his lung on Wednesday, and his status for this week’s game is uncertain.
