PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers had five players sit out of Wednesday’s practice due to injury — wide receiver DK Metcalf (ankle), quarterback Aaron Rodgers (left wrist), left tackle Broderick Jones (neck), defensive lineman Derrick Harmon (knee) and special teams/wide receiver ace Ben Skowronek (shoulder). Jones and Harmon have already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
Rodgers revealed that he plans to practice Thursday and Friday to see if he can play on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
Time is the most critical component for Rodgers to get back on the field.
“I’ve had more days for the callus to form and more healing, especially Monday and Tuesday just doing rehab. Today I did a little bit more,” Rodgers said. “Tomorrow I’ll do a little bit more and see where I’m at come Friday.”
Rodgers said his left wrist feel better than he did this time last week. However, he still hasn’t taken snaps from under center.
“Not today. We’ll see later in the week,” Rodgers said about taking snaps under center.
Metcalf (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday, but he expects to be good to go for Sunday’s game against the Bills.
Metcalf suffered the ankle injury in Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears.
“Just got rolled up on,” Metcalf said. “I think I’ll be alright [for Sunday].”
Head coach Mike Tomlin said during his Tuesday press conference that Metcalf could be limited at the beginning of the week. He also expected Skowronek to be limited at the early portion of the week.
“A couple of guys that are managing some in-game things from last week that may be limited at the early portions of the week — and we’ll see where their participation leads — Joey Porter with a hip, DK Metcalf got his ankle rolled, but he was able to finish,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday. “But again, certainly, we’ll probably limit him at the early portions of the week. And the same thing for Ben Skowronek with a shoulder.”
