It’s summertime in Indiana. The days are hot, too hot with the current heatwave sweeping the nation, but news regarding the Indianapolis Colts is ice cold. The time between minicamps and training camp makes for some long days for those thirsting for football related updates. If there is a good time to take a break from all things Colts, today is it as the United States celebrates 250 years.

The Colts sought to capture “Indiana nights” when they rolled out their alternate jerseys. This could be an iconic Indiana night for Hoosiers as we enjoy food, family, and firework displays. The 250th anniversary is something to celebrate and reflect on. We spend 99% of our time here reflecting on Colts football, but with the news cycle at a standstill, it’s the perfect time to shift gears.

As the sun goes down, the fireflies come out. They start the show with twinkling lights while the fireworks take over to finish things off. The Colts used their fireworks early in 2025 and finished things off with sparklers. They need to save some of those mortars to have a true show-stopping grand finale this year. The fuse was lit and fans were starting to imagine a fitting end to it all, but it turned out to be a dud. The big boom that was expected fizzled out in a small flame and sent people home disappointed.

There are plenty of Indiana summer nights left, but as we count those down, Colts football will be there to fill the gap. Take the day off, Colts fans. Don’t worry about the roster, health, continuity, or the fact that Chris Ballard is still employed…Have a burger, a hot dog, chips, and a cold one while you soak up an Indiana night with an American tradition. It may be a hot one tonight, but a cold offseason will be waiting for you tomorrow to cool you back down.
