The Jets lose again

In the 12th game of the 2024 season for the New York Jets, on a cold and sunny late autumn afternoon in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Jets lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 26 - 21.

After a wild first half in which the Seattle Seahawks made numerous game altering mistakes, the Jets entered halftime with just a five-point lead at 21 - 16. A devastating Aaron Rodgers pick six to Leonard Williams when the Jets were knocking on the door at the Seahawks 10-yard line changed the entire complexion of the game, turning what should have been a three score lead for the Jets into a tight five-point game at halftime.

The Jets opened the third quarter on offense. They drove the ball inside the Seahawks 40-yard line before the drive bogged down and the Jets were forced to punt.

The Seahawks promptly drove the ball 80 yards down to the Jets half yard line before turning the ball over on downs on a Quincy Williams sack of Geno Smith.

On the next Jets drive Breece Hall fumbled and the Seahawks recovered to give the Seahawks great field position near midfield late in the third quarter. A long fourth down completion to Jaxon Smith-Njigba gave the Seahawks a first down near the Jets 20 yard line as the fourth quarter opened. The Jets defense drove the Seahawks offense backwards from there, and the Seahawks had to settle for a field goal, bringing the score to 21 - 19 in favor of the Jets early in the fourth quarter.

Neither team scored again until the Seahawks put together a drive, aided by multiple Jets penalties leading to fourth down conversions, that culminated in a touchdown and a 26 - 21 Seahawks lead with less than six minutes remaining in the game. At this point the Seahawks had scored 19 unanswered points.

The Jets put together a final drive that made it inside the Seahawks’ 30-yard line before they turned the ball over on downs to effectively end the game with the score Seahawks 26, Jets 21.

The Jets showed some fight, but in the end they self-destructed as they gave away a game the Seahawks were trying to hand to them. With the loss the Jets dropped their record to 3-9 on the season. The Jets go on the road next week to take on the Miami Dolphins.
