In the New York Jets 2025 preseason opener, on a warm evening in legendary Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin, the Jets beat the Green Bay Packers, 30 – 10.
The first half saw the Jets dominate the action on their way to a 17 – 3 halftime lead. Justin Fields led the Jets first team offense to a touchdown on the only drive of the game for the Jets offensive starters. The Jets defense stifled the Packers offense, and the Packers turned the ball over a couple of times, leading to Jets scores.
The Jets opened the third quarter with a 14 point lead as backups and backups to backups took over for both teams. Midway through the quarter Adrian Martinez led a Jets drive culminating in a touchdown pass to Stone Smartt and a 24 – 3 Jets lead. The quarter came to an end with the score still 24 – 3 and the Jets driving deep into Packers territory. A few plays later Harrison Mevis hit a short field goal to make the score 27 – 3 in favor of the Jets.
The Packers finally got something going on offense on their next possession, driving the length of the field, almost all in the running game. They scored on a long touchdown run to bring the score to Jets 27, Packers 10.
The Jets tacked on another short field goal after a long drive led by Adrian Martinez to make the score Jets 30, Packers 10 with less than three minutes remaining in the game. A final Packers drive went nowhere, and the Jets emerged with a blowout victory to kick off the 2025 preseason.
Results of preseason games aren’t very meaningful, but it’s always better to win than to lose, and the Jets won convincingly today. With the win the Jets go to 1-0 for the preseason. Now the Jets move on to a matchup against the New York Giants one week from today. Six days after that the preseason will be over and final cuts will begin. How did it get so late so soon?
