One of the biggest mysteries around the Pittsburgh Steelers entering the 2025 season was the development of their young offensive line featuring four players on rookie deals. Thus far, the results have been a mixed bag to say the least. On a positive note, their second-year right tackle Troy Fautanu has shown some encouraging flashes in pass protection just four starts into his NFL career, despite what the PFF grades may lead you to believe. So far, the Washington product has been tagged for six pressures but hasn’t allowed a sack yet while facing some relatively solid competition to date.
SN analyst Derrick Bell dove into the tape, clipping over 30 reps to appropriately gauge his progress. The film room breakdown examines where he’s currently excelling and the specific areas needing further development. In what is essentially his rookie campaign at a new position, Fautanu’s film offers optimism for the future because of top-shelf traits that lead to some overwhelming wins in isolated situations on an island. Moving forward, it’s about trying to cut down on the couple ugly losses that have occurred on a weekly basis to this point. There’s a lot to be excited about now; it’s about playing with more consistency.
