The Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers held joint practice on Thursday at Acrisure Stadium. These practices act like a controlled preseason game for teams and continue to become more and more popular around the league, but they can also get a bit chippy, as both sides found out today.
Per Alan Saunders of Steelers Now, a fight broke out after punter Cam Johnston took exception to how close someone got to his plant leg.
“The one big dust-up at practice today was started by … Steelers punter Cam Johnston,” Saunders posted on X. “He’s a punter. But he’s also an Aussie first and foremost. He took exception to someone crashing too close to his plant leg. Connor Heyward then clobbered someone and things escalated.”
Johnston suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1 last year against the Atlanta Falcons when someone collided with him on a punt. The Steelers and Buccaneers will square off on Saturday in Week 2 of the preseason.
