Bradyn Swinson was drafted into the NFL with the 146th overall pick in the fifth round by the New England Patriots. He plans to spend approximately 40% of his paycheck on a Lamborghini Urus, kind of.

His first big purchase is going to be a new luxury vehicle but we don’t know the exact details.

Swinson began his NFL career at rookie minicamp last month. The former LSU edge rusher is expected to make the roster but his standing on the depth chart is not entire clear. Mike Vrabel may want to use him in a more traditional strongside linebacker role. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound 22-year-old could get bumped to a hybrid role on the edge like he did in college. New England might decide he is best out of a three-point stance.

Regardless of where Bradyn Swinson ends up, he is going to arrive to practice in style. A new behind-the-scenes documentary provides exclusive access to the athlete throughout the pre- and post-Draft process. At one point, the woman behind the camera asks him what he is going to do with his first NFL paycheck. Swinson is going to start with his parents. He is going to renovate their house and put in a pool. If there is money leftover, he is going to buy a Lamborghini Super Urus.

Here’s the thing. The Urus costs at least $250,000. That number does not include any additional upgrades or customizations. That is the sticker price.

Swinson can obviously afford to finance the car. Money is not necessarily an object. I would imagine that is what he is going to do— pay monthly installments after an initial downpayment. Pretty standard.

However, this purchase went extremely viral on social media over the last few days for this reason:

Bradyn Swinson signed a contract worth $4,639,982 over four years. He is projected to make approximately $950,000 as a rookie with a yearly increase of about $120,000. That number comes out to around $669,000 after taxes. A $250,000 Lamborghini Urus reflects ~37% of his total salary.

People on the internet obviously saw those plans and freaked out. Those people forgot about the process of buying a car. Swinson will probably not choose to put down all $250K. Maybe he will. Likely not. To spend nearly 40% of his salary within the first few months of signing would be crazy. There are alternatives to doing so. I cannot imagine that is what will happen.
