When news broke that Brendan Sorsby was forging his controversial bid to play for Texas Tech in 2026 following controversy surrounding sports gambling in favor of the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft, it turned heads across both levels of adult football.

How would the Red Raiders replace their top-tier quarterback, who may or may not have ultimately played for them this fall? Would the NFL take any issue with Sorsby’s off-the-field actions when he reaches their ranks? And which teams would actually consider using a 2027 draft pick on Sorsby now, considering his future remains very much up in the air?

Well, while the first two questions remain to be seen, ESPN’s Field Yates did weigh in on Sorsby’s draft future, noting three teams he believes could end up having interest in the controversial Texas Tech arm.

“Which teams might be interested? Hard not to think about a team like the New York Jets, still looking for a long-term answer. Plenty of draft capital right now. Geno Smith is going to be the starter with Cade Klubnik behind him,” Yates explained.

“Beyond that, could a team like the Cleveland Browns also still looking for a long-term answer? They have additional draft capital to work with as well after the Myles Garrett trade.

“And then, of course, finally, the Arizona Cardinals, a team that’s kind of on the periphery here. Not sure they would make a ton of sense because of the Carson Beck selection, but Beck drafted at the top of the third round. Not enough to fully stamp him as the guy that they are going to build around going forward.”

While there are some restrictions on how teams operate within the Supplemental NFL Draft, as they can only use their own draft picks to make a selection, in the end, Yates believes this actually benefits a team like the Jets, as they have multiple premium picks that they could consider blowing one on

“So a team like the New York Jets that’s got multiple picks, for example, in the first round, could only use their own first-round pick in the Supplemental NFL Draft,” Yates notes. “I think Soresby ends up in the second round, but a fascinating next few weeks is on tap for a player with tons of talent.”

Which team will ultimately land Sorsby’s services? Only time will tell, but as Yates noted, there will be interest in his services, making this move all the more interesting.
