I don’t see the Titans going this way.
Field Yates of ESPN has put out his first post-Super Bowl 2025 NFL mock draft over at ESPN. He has the Tennessee Titans taking Travis Hunter, CB/WR, out of Colorado with the first pick. Hunter could certainly be described as a “generational talent” but this is not a way I see the Titans going with this pick. This is probably the fourth most likely scenario behind trade the pick, take a quarterback, or take Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State.
Ian Rapoport had a “report” over the weekend that the Titans are interested in trading this pick. That wasn’t exactly breaking news, but to be fair to Rapoport, he’s probably not paying much attention to the draft before the Super Bowl. Chad Brinker and Mike Borgonzi have made no secret about their desire to acquire top-100 picks in the next two drafts. The best way to do that is by trading the top pick in this draft.
As for the Hunter pick, here is what Yates had to say about it:
The Titans have made it clear they won’t force the quarterback issue at No. 1 if they don’t deem one of the passers worthy of the pick. Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’sShedeur Sanders will be in the mix here, given Will Levis’ struggles, but Tennessee could go another direction. And that opens the door for a spirited debate in picking between Hunter and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.
While there is little precedent for a prospect playing both sides of the ball in the NFL, Hunter has a rare skill set. Scouts have noted his determination and focus as reasons why he was able to play an astounding 1,458 snaps this past season. The Titans need help at both WR and CB, and Hunter— whom I’m ranking at corner right now — could boost either spot. He caught 15 touchdown passes and had four interceptions in 2024.
