New York Jets superfan Castanio-Gervasi finally got the chance she had been waiting for.

The New York Post reported that the Jets had decided not to let her participate in $100K field-goal kicking contest. It was supposed to be at halftime of Sunday’s game against the Patriots. They came to that conclusion due to a technicality.

Castanio-Gervasi had said the team was aware she’d previously played college soccer at the Division I level. The Jets disqualified her because she’s a high-school soccer coach. She told the New York Post that the decision crushed her and her family. “This is life-changing money for me,” she said. “I was confident I could have made it.”

She further added that she attends Jets games to honor her late father, Frank. He was also a lifelong fan. The decision by the New York Jets made them look terrible.

Long Island superfan Castanio-Gervasi was invited, disinvited, and then re-invited to attempt a halftime field goal. MetLife Stadium went crazy when she came out on the field. Everybody was behind her after hearing about her story.

This story did not have a happy ending.

After plenty of controversy surrounding her eligibility, the fan did not take advantage of the opportunity like many thought she would. Ashley Castanio-Gervasi missed her field-goal attempt from 30 yards out during halftime of the contest.

Even if Castanio-Gervasi had made the kick, her job wouldn’t have been done. She would’ve had to also connect with a 40-yard attempt to earn the $100,000.

The New York Jets made things right in the end, and that’s all that matters.

As for the game, the team lost 42-10 in the final home game of the season. The Jets could only muster two wins at home all year long. As of right now, the New York Jets are locked into the 3rd pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.
