Christian Wilkins is considered one of the NFL’s top interior defensive linemen, but that fact did not stop the Raiders from releasing him from the roster.
After signing a lucrative four-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders last offseason, Wilkins played in just five games in 2024 due to a foot injury.
He was supposed to return to form in 2025, but suddenly, his tenure with the team would end. He would be shockingly released. The Raiders voided the remaining $35.2 million of that deal this summer while parting ways.
Now, new details are emerging.
NFL insider Josina Anderson dropped some behind-the-scenes details from sources with inside knowledge of the situation.
According to Josina Anderson of The Exhibit, an unspecified incident with a teammate may have triggered Christian Wilkins’ release.
Apparently, something happened in the locker room.
“Some league sources believe an incident involving a teammate may have factored in-part into the Raiders’ fatigue and release of Christian Wilkins, beyond management of his foot injury as the reported predominant cause.
“The Raiders have not officially confirmed an incident or a complaint involving Wilkins and a teammate, while another direct league source confirmed awareness of a situation in which ‘Christian [was] playing around.”
The source presumably offered no further details, and without more, it is impossible to speculate about what the alleged incident could have been.
It should be noted that Christian Wilkins is the same person who was caught on camera grabbing the inside of the butt of a player while he was playing at Clemson.
He chalked it up to “being silly” in an apology.
Former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Jonathan Feliciano took to X and made it clear that Wilkins has always “Been a lil freaky.”

On Thursday, the Las Vegas Raiders released Wilkins just one season into a four-year contract worth $110 million with a terminated vested veteran designation.
Las Vegas voided the $35.2 million of guaranteed money left on Wilkins’ contract.
Wilkins has filed a grievance with the NFLPA.
