Who is the fastest NFL player? Through 10 weeks of the 2025 NFL season, there have been some jaw-dropping runs by running backs showcasing unmatched speed. While the leaderboard of the fastest NFL players right now is a bit different than previous years due to the Tyreek Hill injury, there’s still plenty of speed out there delivering hihglights on a weekly basis.
Here are the five fastest speeds captured by NextGenStats for NFL players through the first 10 weeks this season.
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has the two longest touchdown runs in the NFL this season. However, neither of those scoring runs generated the fastest record speed in the NFL this season. That moment came in Week 2, when Taylor caught a short pass from Daniel Jones and bolted 43 yards downfield before being knocked out at the Denver Broncos’ 11-yard line. On that play, Taylor’s max speed was clocked at 22.38 miles per hour. It’s the only time this season that Taylor has eclipsed 22 mph and he has no other plays that rank inside the top 20 for the fastest speeds recorded this season.

Jahmyr Gibbs is the fastest running back in the NFL right now. That’s captured in part by some of the fastest speeds recorded this season, with the Detroit Lions running back responsible for two of the three fastest-recorded speeds in 2025. Gibbs’ fastest play came in Week 2, when he ripped off a 42-yard run against the Chicago Bears. The second happened in Week 7 on a 78-yard rushing touchdown, when he topped out at 22.23 mph. Gibbs is the only player in the NFL this season to reach 22-plus MPH twice.

He entered Week 11 with the highest drop rate in the NFL (15 percent) among all wide receivers with 30-plus targets. While drops and effort have largely been the issue, the speed is still there. In Week 3, Thomas Jr. pulled in a pass over the middle from Trevor Lawrence and took it for 46 yards to the Houston Texans’ 10-yard line. It was the fastest speed recorded by a wide receiver this season.
