Changed unit must prove itself

The Las Vegas Raiders offensive line struggled some in 0224 and there will be some change and competition going into the new season complete with new coaching.

The Raiders did quick work on the unit, which will be coached by Brennan Carroll, the son of Las Vegas’ head coach.

Before free agency began, Las Vegas signed signing former Cincinnati guard Alex Cappa, two days after the Bengals released him. He was in Tampa Bay with new Raiders’ general manager John Spytek and played with Raiders’ part owner Tom Brady. Cappa struggled in 2024 but has 96 career NFL starts.

Then, three days before free agency started, the Raiders cut center Andre James, paving the way for second-year player Jackson Powers-Johnson to start. James was injured last year and then lost his starting job to Powers-Johnson, a second-round pick last season, takes over. The Oregon product began last season at guard, but center has always been considered his primary NFL position.

But Raiders general manager John Spytek recently said Powers-Johnson, Cappa, Dylan Parham and Jordan Meredith are all competing for the two guard spots with all but Cappa being in the mix at center.

So, basically, we know the names of the offensive linemen just not actually where everyone will play.

We recently asked our readers how comfortable they are with the new-look unit.

It seems there is some concern as 65 percent of our voters indicates they are not impressed with the unit.

I get it, but I think this can be a decent group if it stays healthy and the young players continue to develop.
