The Super Bowl ring Plaxico Burress won as a member of the 2007 New York Giants team that beat the then-undefeated New England Patriots has been sold for an almost record price. Only Baltimore Colts head coach Don McCafferty’s Super Bowl V ring that was auctioned in 2022 for $300,000 fetched a higher price.
The ring, which Plaxico Burress received after catching the game-winning touchdown against the Patriots in the Super Bowl, was auctioned off on Sunday by Heritage Auctions. The final sale price for the historic memorabilia ended up being $280,600.
Burress previously authenticated the ring with a letter to Heritage Auctions that read, “I received this actual ring as a member of the New York Giants who won Super Bowl XLII held February 3, 2008 against the New England Patriots in Phoenix, AZ. I further certify this ring is the one and only ring and that no duplicate copies were produced.”
The gorgeous monochromatic design is unlike any other Championship ring we’ve ever seen, crafted entirely from white gold and genuine diamonds. Three Lombardi Trophies, representing each Super Bowl victory for the franchise, adorn the face along with the team’s “NY” logo and the words “World Champions” in raised text. Left shank provides the logo of Super Bowl XLII, the date and the score, “NYG 17, NE 14.” Right shank announces original owner’s name and jersey number along with the logo of the NFL and a mention of the difficult path to glory: “Eleven Straight Wins on the Road.”
The ring survives with light wear in its original wooden hinged display box and cardboard Tiffany packaging and measures to approximately size eleven (11), but two small spherical sizers have been soldered to the interior to reduce the size to an effective eight (8). Weight is seventy-four grams (74 g.). Interior band is stamped “Tiffany & Co. .585,” the digits indicating fourteen karat gold. Letter of provenance from Plaxico Burress.
The New York Post reported earlier this month that the ring was being sold on behalf of an anonymous owner after being sold by Burress.
At that time, Heritage Auctions speculated that the ring could have a final bid of at least $100,000. It ended up raking in well more than that.

Plaxico Burress, who earned around $30 million during his NFL career, infamously shot himself in the leg with an unlicensed handgun mere months after winning the Super Bowl. He ended up spending 20 months in jail after pleading guilty to attempted weapon possession.
In 2014, Burress was forced to sell his home in Lighthouse Point, Fla. for half the price he paid for it after receiving a foreclosure notice in 2010. He also had to sell his home in Virginia Beach in 2013 because of liens placed on the...
