Bengals’ 1st-round pick is in a stalemate

The Shemar Stewart situation is worth keeping an eye on for the other 31 NFL teams.

The Cincinnati Bengals and Stewart, their first-round pick, are embroiled in a strange and unusual growing contract battle that has caused the pass-rusher from Texas A&M to publicly call out the team’s front office and it caused him to leave the team’s minicamp last month.

Some league observers are wondering if it will get to the point where the Bengals consider trading Stewart, who was the No. 17 overall pick in April.

So, we went to our community members and asked if they thought it would be a good idea for the Las Vegas Raiders to call the Bengals about a Stewart trade.

It seems our readers are mixed on the idea. In a poll with nearly 700 votes cast, 53 percent don’t think it would be worth it for the Raiders to pursue a Stewart deal, while 47 percent like the idea.

I get both sides on this one. You can never have enough pass-rushers and it could be a need soon. Malcolm Koonce is working on a one-year deal and 2023 first-round pick Tyree Wilson is entering a critical season. But is Stewart the type of player to mortage a high pick in next year’s draft?

It’s a tough one and that’s why this poll was so close.
