DK Metcalf was suspended for two games on Monday night for his interaction with a fan at Ford Field on Sunday. After being grabbed by the Pittsburgh Steelers’ star receiver during the second quarter of the Steelers’ 29-24 win over the Detroit Lions, the fan said that he got under Metcalf’s skin by calling him by his full name.

The fan didn’t appear too shaken up by the situation, gloating about provoking him afterward in a video that surfaced on social media.

“That was the goal, folks!” The fan appeared to have said as he returned to his seat.

The fan also raised his arms in excitement after Metcalf let him go.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Metcalf referred the same fan to the Seattle Seahawks’ security last season. Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson said Sunday night that Metcalf told him the fan called him a slur and spoke derogatorily about his mother.

“I got word — obviously, I’m not condoning putting your hands on a fan or punching a fan — but he did call him a racial slur,” Johnson said Sunday night on “Nightcap.” “He called him the n-word and he did call his mom a cunt. I think, with those words being exchanged and the fan saying that, I think that’s where the action occurred.

“That’s a bad combination (of words) … and it caused DK to react. I’m sure he will have to deal with some type of discipline. You know how the NFL is. No matter what’s said, they want you to be able to control yourself in that situation, but I understand.”

Metcalf is appealing the suspension.
