On June 30, 1965, the Atlanta Falcons officially took flight, thanks to the approval of then-NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle. Under the leadership of owner Rankin Smith Sr., the franchise was set to make its debut in 1966 as the league’s 15th team. Smith made history by acquiring the Falcons for a groundbreaking price of $8.5 million—an unprecedented figure in the NFL at that time.

In December 2024, word quickly spread that the Falcons would have a patch celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2025, which you can find below.

This led many to speculate that similar to the 2015 season in which the Falcons wore patches to honor the 50th anniversary of the franchise, that they would also be wearing patches on their uniforms in 2025 to celebrate 60 years. With Week 1 in the books, and the Falcons not wearing the patches against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I received some questions from fans on the whereabouts of this logo.

According to a team source, the Falcons’ 60th anniversary patches were created specifically for season ticket holders, and will not be used on team jerseys.

It’s a shame, too. I really like the design, it honestly has a touch of all of the decades, I think. The logo prominently showcases the number 60 in bold red, with the classic logo used from 1966 to 2002 on the left and the current logo used from 2003-present on the right.

Even though the team will not be wearing the patch on their uniforms, they will still technically honor the past as they are set to wear their throwback uniforms with the popular red helmets in three games this season, against the Buffalo Bills on October 13, on the road against the Buccaneers on December 11, and hosting the Los Angeles Rams on December 29.
