After the Falcons cut DJ Chark, we figured there was a corresponding move coming, and it is once again a former third round pick on defense the team is hoping to get a look at before the season.
Last week that was safety Ronnie Harrison, who is playing inside linebacker for the Falcons, and this week it’s former defensive end/outside linebacker Ronnie Perkins. A third round selection in 2021 for the Pats, he didn’t play at all his rookie season before landing on injured reserve, something he did again in 2022, 2024 with the Broncos, and 2025 with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL. Injuries have defined his career, is what I’m saying.
Perkins played seven games at outside linebacker for the Broncos is 2023, his sole healthy season, with 13 tackles and a role on special teams. He was more successful in the UFL, with 3.5 sacks before he landed on injured reserve, and likely caught the eyes of Falcons scouts who are definitely keeping an eye on that league. In Atlanta, he’s hoping to play a lot in the third preseason game to audition for a practice squad spot, though it’s obviously an uphill climb given how many players the Falcons already have jockeying for roles up front.
Give Perkins a warm welcome, and we’ll see how he fares on Friday night.
