The Falcons dip into the UFL to add to a talented running back room.
The Atlanta Falcons have signed Jashaun Corbin after he led the UFL in rushing yards with 514. The Rockledge, Florida, product went undrafted out of Florida State in 2022, bouncing between the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers rosters for two seasons before joining the San Antonio Brahmas.
Corbin only got one carry in his first NFL stint, but he made the most of his time in the UFL. He led the league in rushing in his debut season with an impressive 97.8 yards per game over the last four weeks of the season. The running back displays good contact balance and leg drive on film and has enough speed to play at the next level.
Terry Fontenot has always been vocal about the team's belief in adding a strength to a strength. It’s how Atlanta ended up with the backfield of Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. Last year, the team drafted Jase McClellan out of Alabama, but the rookie dealt with injury and never really flashed when he did get on the field.
Corbin will push McClellan and others like Carlos Washington Jr. for the RB3 roster spot. While being a good running back is obviously a requirement to win that job, being a viable special teams player will be the key for anyone who wants to stick on the gameday roster.
Corbin has kick return experience, and while Jamal Agnew sits in the lead for the punt returner spot, the second kickoff returner spot is still up for grabs.
A running back wasn’t a need for the Falcons, but there’s nothing wrong with churning the roster and stacking it with the best available options on the market.
