Kirk Cousins is sending a strong message to the Falcons.

After a rocky start with the Falcons and the arrival of rookie talent, the veteran quarterback may need a standout showing at OTAs to hold onto his starting role in Atlanta.

Now, it appears that will not be the case going forward.

The Atlanta Falcons and several other teams across the league are beginning OTAs this week, which is the next phase of the offseason.

Head coach Raheem Morris told reporters that he had not seen veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins on Tuesday, as the first OTA practice was set to begin.

This is surprising from Cousins, given that the veteran quarterback was at the team’s voluntary workouts last month.

The veteran is currently No. 2 on the depth chart after the Falcons couldn’t work out a trade they were satisfied with this offseason.

Kirk Cousins’ 2024 season with the Atlanta Falcons was filled with ups and downs. Signed to a four-year, $180 million deal to bring stability at quarterback, Cousins got off to a strong start. He led the Falcons to a 6-3 record.

However, things would go terribly as the season progressed.

He started just 14 games for the team before he was benched in favor of first-round rookie Michael Penix.

In 2024, Cousins appeared in 14 games for the Falcons and completed 66.9 percent of his passes for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.

What Is Next For Kirk Cousins?

Falcons HC Raheem Morris said QB Kirk Cousins wasn’t at voluntary OTAs today.

Cousins is seeking a starter job in 2025 and a trade could very well be the next step in this saga.

He tossed 18 touchdowns against 16 interceptions last season, so it will be quite hard for him to find that at this stage of his career.

Nonetheless, the Falcons are okay with the 36-year-old Cousins as the backup behind second-year QB Michael Penix Jr.
