Falcons in a tailspin, Buccaneers extend lead, in Week 8 NFC South Review
The Falcoholic The Falcoholic

The regular season is nearly halfway over, and teams will start being eliminated from playoff contention by the end of next month. Tampa Bay is in position to make a playoff push and maintains a comfortable lead over the division. The rest of the South suffered a loss, and none seem like playoff contenders. Here is the Week 8 NFC South Review:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-2)

Week 8 Result: Buccaneers 23 – Saints 3
Week 9 Opponent: Bye Week

The Buccaneers needed to handle business before the bye week, and that’s precisely what they did. Playoff teams don’t play with their food, and the Buccaneers made sure not to overlook their lowly opponent. Tampa Bay is now 2-0 in the division, and they won’t play their next division game until December. No team has needed a bye week as badly as the Buccaneers. They’ll have the opportunity to rest and get back some key players before making a late-season run.

New Orleans Saints (1-7)

Week 8 Result: Saints 3 – Buccaneers 23
Week 9 Opponent: Los Angeles Rams

It has been a tough season for the Saints. Spencer Rattler was relieved of duty for Tyler Shough midway through this one, but the result was the same. The losses have stockpiled, and the season is out of hand. New Orleans isn’t worried about winning the division or even having a winning season at this point. Every person on payroll is under a microscope, and the team has its mock draft machine up and running. This roster is playing for pride, and they’ll do so against the Rams this upcoming Sunday.

Carolina Panthers (4-4)

Week 8 Result: Panthers 9 – Bills 40
Week 9 Opponent: Green Bay Packers

Bryce Young was missing in action, and his team stood no chance without him. Andy Dalton looked long in the tooth, and the Panthers ‘ red-hot running game has cooled off. This season has been one step forward and one step back for the cats; if they can’t find their rhythm soon, they could watch their playoff hopes dissipate. This week, Carolina takes on another tough challenge, the Packers.

Atlanta Falcons (3-4)

Week 8 Result: Falcons 10 – Dolphins 34
Week 9 Opponent: New England Patriots

Kirktober was canceled, and Zac Robinson is public enemy number one. The Falcons defensive injuries got the best of them against the Dolphins, while the offense continued to flounder. This team doesn’t look like it’ll be threatening for the division crown. The Falcons once-promising season has slipped away from them. The team still has 10 games left on the schedule, but they haven’t given anyone a reason to believe they can turn things around. Raheem Morris is running out of one-liners, and if his offense can’t perform, he could lose his job.

The Buccaneers will get some much-needed rest after proving once again they are the team to beat. The Falcons and the Panthers won’t be a threat unless they curb their volatility; meanwhile,...
