Recently, the Atlanta Falcons made headlines when they signed wide receiver Drake London to a massive $141 million contract extension. The move keeps London in Atlanta over the long haul and signals the team’s trust in him to be their number one wide receiver for the next several years to come.

Now, London has spoken on the responsibility that comes with such a massive commitment from the team, saying that he is “raising my standard in every single category there is,” per Will McFadden of the Falcons on X, formerly Twitter.

London also spoke on the inconsistency he has had to deal with at the quarterback position in Atlanta, with a different person playing quarterback in each of his four years in the NFL.

“Whoever throws me the ball, I’m supposed to catch it,” he said. “… If you throw it in my vicinity, it should be my ball.”

London has indeed established himself as an elite catcher of contested throws during his career, putting together the best season of his run in Atlanta last season, including an epic performance on the road against the New England Patriots.

Unfortunately, the Falcons’ offense still stagnated far too often last season, thanks to a mix of poor playcalling and inconsistency at the quarterback position, among other factors.

Still, the team is clearly committed to both London and Bijan Robinson, the star running back who will almost assuredly get a massive contract of his own in the coming years, to be their skill positional stars moving forward.

The Falcons will hope that the rest of the team can come along for the ride and finally get back into the playoff mix next season for the first time in nine years.
