A new rumor suggests the Atlanta Falcons are in danger of losing a top coach because he will be a top candidate for the head coach opening at his alma mater.

Atlanta heads into a tough Week 4 matchup against the Washington Commanders, looking to avoid beginning the season in a 1-3 hole. There is added pressure on offensive coordinator Zac Robinson to have a big bounce-back day with his unit after they were shut out by the Carolina Panthers last week.

Yet, despite the awful performance in Week 3 and concerns about 2024 first-round pick Michael Penix Jr. regressing, Robinson is rumored to be a top candidate for the new head coach opening at Oklahoma State.

“Robinson, who also happens to be one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Oklahoma State history, is expected to be on the very short list for the now-vacant job of Cowboys head coach,” multiple sources connected to the search told NFL Network’ Ian Rapoport.

The university has hired TurnkeyZRG to conduct the search for Gundy’s replacement, and Rapoport added that the second-year Falcons coordinator is expected to “figure prominently” in the process. The former Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach was brought in when Raheem Morris was hired as the Falcons’ new head coach last year.

Robinson is fourth all-time for Oklahoma State in passing yards and touchdowns. The three-year starter under Gundy also leads the school in most games played at 45.

His former head coach was fired from his role following a 1-2 start to his 21st season leading the program. While his tenure had an unfortunate end, he will go down as the greatest coach in Cowboys history. Winning a record 170 games and taking the program and posting a 12-6 record for the school in bowl games.
