Extend Pickens, Draft Rd 1 WR, Maybe Both? | Steelers Morning Rush
Steelers Now Steelers Now

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League.

Today, it’s the wide receiver position and how what the team does with George Pickens will impact what they do in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Steelers have three choices with Pickens. They can trade him, they can let him play out of the final year of his contract, and they can sign him to a long-term extension this offseason.

None of those three should preclude Omar Khan and company from lining up to take another wide receiver with their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

They also have the ability to add one or more wide receivers through free agency or trades. Those moves shouldn’t keep Mike Tomlin from hounding every top receiver at the Senior Bowl in Mobile this week, either.

The only way that a wide receiver like Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka might not be a good choice for Pittsburgh at No. 21 overall this April is if the Steelers are able to both extend Pickens and bring in another top receiver during free agency.
