The team announced Monday that Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis is scheduled to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.
It came at such a crucial time for him.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Levis was dealing with shoulder issues during the 2024 season, and the pain never completely went away. ESPN’s Adam Schefter would further report that the signal-caller sustained the injury “early last year” before he ended up “further aggravating it later in the season.”
Incoming rookie Cam Ward is now “poised” to become Tennessee’s starter in 2025, per Schefter. “The Titans other backup QBs are veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle. Ward now shapes up as the Week 1 starter at Denver.”
What should have been a straightforward medical update has instead sparked a wave of controversy, including former players calling out the timing of the announcement as “intentional.”
Will Levis’ absence will allow rookie Cam Ward to take full command of the Titans’ offense in Week 1 against Denver.
Nate Washington, who played six seasons for Tennessee, spoke freely about the situation.
“That Levis decision/timing was intentional!” he posted on X.
That Levis decision/timing was intentional! Not gonna get me to believe anything else….. #Titans

“Not gonna get me to believe anything else…”
Taylor Lewan, another former Titan and longtime offensive lineman, was also skeptical: “I’m sure there’s a side to the story that explains why Will waited until late July to get this surgery. Unfortunately, I’m too dumb to figure out what that is,” he said.

There will be no forced quarterback competition in Tennessee after all.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis will miss the entire 2025 season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Levis has made 21 starts over the last two seasons, and he does not have a great record. Now that Cam Ward has replaced him, the only thing they could possibly save him is Ward struggling terribly during his rookie campaign.
Otherwise, once the 2025 season is over, he will be headed elsewhere to continue his career.
