A former quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers thinks Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy will change in their reunion.

Part of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ decision to reunite quarterback Aaron Rodgers with head coach Mike McCarthy this offseason was the hope of recreating the magic the two had with the Green Bay Packers. However, former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch thinks they will be a bit different this time around.

“You’re gonna change some things up, and you have to evolve in today’s NFL. I don’t think that’s gonna be a challenge to them because once your quarterback knows what’s going on, and he is the extension of the coaching staff out there, he can get your receivers and every pass catcher out there up to speed as far as when it needs to go,” Batch said on The Snap Count podcast. “So, I think this offense would be in a lot better shape than it was in the past.”

There is no doubt that McCarthy will use a similar offense to the one he previously ran with Rodgers in Green Bay. But that was eight years ago, so there shouldn’t be any surprise if it looks a little different in 2026.

Rodgers’ arsenal of weapons is also quite different to the one he had with the Packers. This offseason, the Steelers traded for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., signed running back Rico Dowdle in free agency and added wide receiver Germie Bernard in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Only time will tell how the Steelers’ new pieces will mesh, but Rodgers made due with a lot less while passing for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and just seven interceptions last season.

McCarthy and Rodgers have won 107 games together, including the playoffs, which currently ranks as the ninth-most wins by any head coach-starting quarterback duo in the Super Bowl Era. They also defeated the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.
