Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden doesn’t believe the Steelers’ win total in 2025 will be swayed by who’s under center. He doesn’t see a drastic gap of separation between Mason Rudolph and Aaron Rodgers.
“I think with Aaron Rodgers, I realistically see nine to 10 wins,” McFadden said on CBS Sports HQ. “Ten being best-case scenario. If Mason Rudolph is the guy moving forward, I see, best-case scenario, nine, potentially eight, seven wins. So that’s not a drastic gap of separation when you look at the numbers. But clearly, if you win nine, 10 ballgames, you have an opportunity to get into the playoffs.”
Bryant is not the only former Steeler who thinks Rudolph’s talent is not that far off from the 41-year-old version of Rodgers.
Former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch thinks Rudolph could have the upper hand, even if Rodgers ultimately signs with the Steelers.
“When you add an Aaron Rodgers, I think the longer it goes towards training camp, I think you have to give the edge to Mason Rudolph,” Batch said on “The Arthur Moats Experience.” “That means he knows the system a little better than what Aaron Rodgers would. We understand what his resume looks like, but again, this is not a system that Aaron has spent the majority of his career in. I just think the longer that this goes on, I think you’re kind of walking on thin ice as it relates to how soon are you going to put him in there.”
The Steelers continue to wait, but Rodgers dropped a major hint he’s going to sign with Pittsburgh.
During a concert on May 17 in Austin, Texas with his friend and artist, Mike Stud, Rodgers held a Q&A with the crowd.
At one point during the session, a girl asked him if he would ever play for the Chicago Bears. Rodgers replied, “No. But I believe there is a team that might play in Chicago this year, a road trip to Chicago. I love Chicago, though, way more than they love me. It’s been a great relationship all one way.”
The Steelers play the Bears in Week 12 at Soldier Field. The Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints also both play at Chicago this season, but they’re not considered clear-cut favorites to land Rodgers like the Steelers.
Rodgers was later asked if he would sign with the Steelers, and he gave a rather ambiguous answer.
“You never know,” Rodgers said.
