Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley peeled back the curtain and explained what makes Steelers’ training camp at St. Vincent College so special. Haley was the Steelers’ offensive coordinator from 2012-17. He also grew up around the organization, as his dad, Dick Haley, was the director of player personnel for the Steelers from 1971 to 1990.
“As a coach, training camp is a unique, special time when it is away from where you normally work. You’re away from all the distractions, family, it forces teams to build that unmeasurable thing called chemistry,” Haley said on The End Zone on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “The Steelers are a team that still goes to Latrobe. I’ll never forget, Mr. Rooney getting up in front of the team and saying, these aren’t the greatest digs. I get that. But it’s worked. It’s worked for a long period of time, so just deal with it and make the most of it.”
Only six NFL teams will hold their training camps away from their home facilities in 2026 — the Steelers (St. Vincent College), Buffalo Bills (St. John Fisher University), Kansas City Chiefs (Missouri Western State University), Los Angeles Rams (Loyola Marymount University), Dallas Cowboys (Marriott Residence Inn in Oxnard, Calif.) and New York Giants (The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.). The Giants will be in West Virginia for two weeks before heading back to New Jersey.
Outside of 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, the Steelers have held their training camp at St. Vincent College every year since 1966.
Players will report to St. Vincent College on Tuesday, July 28. The first practice open to the public will be held on Wednesday, July 29 at 11 a.m. The first padded practice will take place on Monday, August 3, also scheduled for 11 a.m.
Instead of having a Friday Night Lights practice, the annual night practice will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Latrobe Memorial Stadium at approximately 6 p.m.
12 of the 14 practices start at 11 a.m. The Aug. 8 night practice and Saturday, Aug. 15 practice, which is TBD, are the two outliers. Under Mike Tomlin, practices usually started at 1:55 p.m. For one year in 2024, Tomlin started practices predominantly at 10:30 a.m.
The Steelers will announce their 2026 Hall of Honor Class prior to the Saturday, Aug. 1 practice. The Steelers will also celebrate the NFL’s Back Together weekend.
The final practice open to the public at St. Vincent College will be on Monday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m.
