A former member of the Pittsburgh Steelers picks his side of the T.J. Watt vs. Myles Garrett debate.
Defensive end Myles Garrett is no longer in the AFC North after the Cleveland Browns dealt him to the Los Angeles Rams this offseason. However, the long debate between who is better between him and Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J Watt is not dead.
Former Steelers tight end Eric Ebron recently joined in on the conversation and picked his side on who is harder to go up against.
“I have had to block Myles Garrett,” Ebron said on Not Just Football with Cam Heyward. “I also had to block T.J. Watt all camp. To be honest, T.J., and this is no bias. T.J. is so good with his hands. He was so good, it was like he was running routes on me and I was the DB.”
Watt and Garrett have undoubtedly been two of the best players at their positions for the past several years, but Garrett has been getting the last laugh as of late.
After Watt tied Michael Strahan’s single season sack record in 2021 and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett has since broken the record and been named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year twice (2023, 2025).
That isn’t to say Garrett is the better player, but he’s been certainly catching up to Watt’s career production.
Watt currently has 517 tackles, 115 sacks, 36 forced fumbles, 14 fumble recoveries, 58 passes defensed and nine interceptions while Garrett has 412 tackles, 125.5 sacks, 23 forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and 18 passes defensed.
This debate will likely continue until both Watt and Garrett have hung up their cleats for good, and maybe even after. However, the Steelers are likely just happy to see Garrett out of their division and conference, altogether.
