A former member of the Pittsburgh Steelers doesn’t love the idea of the team adding another offensive playmaker.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have added several new faces to their offense this offseason. However, former Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison believes it is more than enough.
In fact, Harrison thinks it could be a bad thing for Pittsburgh to add another playmaker to its offense.
“We don’t really have that much of an inexperienced receiving corps. Right now, we got DK [Metcalf] and we have [Michael] Pittman Jr. We have younger guys that we are trying to build for the future, and then develop into what it is that we need,” Harrison said on his Deebo & Joe podcast. “It takes away reps from these guys that we want to get experience, that we picked up. We have a young guy, Roman Wilson. He’s still young. We just picked up Germie Bernard.”
The Steelers do have an already much-improved wide receiver room, thanks to this offseason’s additions of Pittman and Bernard.
Pittman is bringing a ton of leadership and experience to Pittsburgh with 485 catches for 5,254 yards and 25 touchdowns in his professional career, and Bernard is coming off a career-high 64 catches for 862 yards and seven touchdowns with Alabama last season.
Meanwhile, Metcalf led the Steelers with 850 receiving yards and six touchdowns a season ago.
Wilson, however, hasn’t lived up to expectations since being selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft with just 12 catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns as a pro.
That begs the question if Wilson would be able to fill the void if Metcalf or Pittman were to ever get injured this season.
If the answer is no, then adding another playmaker may not be a bad idea. But the Steelers also seem to be very high on Bernard after trading up in the second round of this year’s draft to land him.
