The Tar Heels move forward with three Belichicks in the fold.
After nine seasons in Foxborough, Brian Belichick will be making his way to Chapel Hill.
The former New England Patriots safeties coach is set to join the staff at the University of North Carolina in the same role, as first reported Saturday by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
A graduate of Trinity College, where he played lacrosse, Belichick entered the NFL ranks as a scouting assistant in 2016. He went on to serve as a coaching assistant for the Patriots from 2017 through 2019 before being named the team’s safeties coach in 2020, overseeing the starting likes of Devin McCourty, Adrian Phillips, Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers.
The Super Bowl LI and LIII champion found himself as the lone Belichick left in New England by the 2024 offseason, with his father’s departure followed by his older brother’s. And with the Jerod Mayo’s firing and Mike Vrabel’s hiring as head coach in January, news arrived that he would not be returning for 2025.
The organization has since added Scott Booker, a senior defensive assistant and nickelbacks coach for the Buffalo Bills this past season, as safeties coach.
And from the AFC East to the ACC, the Tar Heels continue to assemble with Bill Belichick as head coach, Steve Belichick as defensive coordinator and additional familiar faces ranging from Michael Lombardi and Chris Mattes to Frantzy Jourdain and Jamie Collins.
